The evaluation committee is grateful for the cooperation of the people of Bonaire, Statia and Saba

The independent evaluation committee that implemented the evaluation on the effects of the new constitutional structure since 10-10-10 on Bonaire, Statia and Saba, would like to thank everyone that have already participated in the evaluation, for their time and effort. Mrs. Spies, the Chairwoman of the Evaluation Committee: “Thanks to your participation in the group discussions, the telephone questionnaire and the interviews with the research teams, the committee may form a better insight into the effects of the new constitutional structure on the island.”

Visit to the islands provided additional insight on the effects of 10-10-10

Late June, representatives of the evaluation committee visited the islands. During this visit they have spoken with many people in a short time. For example, with residents and staff of a retirement home, young people, customs employees and church representatives. Interviews have also been held with people on the street, in shops and various care centers. Frans Weekers: “We are grateful that so many people have taken the time to tell us their story, this helps us to gain a better insight of what is happening among the population of Bonaire, Statia and Saba.”

Research more than half way through

The committee is progressing well with their investigation. An important part of the information was gathered by the researchers who visited the islands in April. They have spoken with many people that work in the education, health care, police, business and government sector. A telephone survey has been conducted among 750 people and there have been seven group discussions. In addition, anyone who was interested could go to one of the visiting hours. “It is important that there is information collected in various ways. We want to know how people experience the changes. We also want to try to capture as objectively as possible what has changed exactly and what the consequences are,” said committee chairman Liesbeth Spies.

Last opportunity to share your experience with the committee

The committee will now proceed to analyze all the information collected. In August and September, the committee writes its final report. This report will be presented mid-October to the commissioning parties.
