Saba Reach Foundation hosts its annual Banana Salsa Party

Saba Reach Foundation (SRF) held its fourth annual Banana Salsa Party on Saturday, in celebration of the achievements of its programme participants throughout the past year.

The event was held at Eugenius Johnson Centre, where SRF is based. The event started with an opening certificate ceremony. Four Youth Opportunity Path participants received Reach Labour Market I diplomas; 30 Adult Education Dutch and English-language course students received University of the Dutch Caribbean (UDC) certificates.

The new Social Workplace Organoponics Garden Manager Leanne Ortiz was also introduced, along with the five garden apprentices who provide the island with a consistent supply of organic produce throughout the year.

The certificate ceremony was followed by the Banana Salsa buffet which featured over 40 dishes prepared with locally grown ingredients from Organoponics Garden and served by SRF personnel and volunteers. The evening continued with music entertainment and dancing in the courtyard.

For the past four years, SRF has used the Banana Salsa Party as an occasion to showcase the Organo ponics Garden’s produce by inviting restaurants and caterers to use the crops to prepare creative dishes.

SRF extended a special thank you to the 26 restaurants, caterers and friends of the foundation who provided the dishes served during the buffet, and to those who have supported the initiative over the past four years.

SRF is an umbrella organisation consisting of the Youth Opportunity Path, Adult Education and Social Workplace departments, which collectively serve to enhance the personal and professional development of programme participants.
