Windward Islands Airways International Winair has cancelled all of its flights scheduled for Thursday into and out of Princess Juliana International Airport SXM due to the passing of Tropical Storm Erika in the local area, writes The Daily Herald.
All flights are expected to resume as normal on Friday, weather permitting.
Winair will operate its normal flight schedule today, Wednesday, with the exception of three flights. Suspended flights are WM049 St. Maarten-Tortola and WM355 St. Maarten-Nevis. Flight WM541-542 St. Eustatius-St. Maarten-St. Eustatius has been rescheduled to depart St. Maarten at 5:45pm and to depart Statia at 6:15pm.
LIAT (Leeward Islands Air Transport) has cancelled several flights from today, Wednesday, through Friday. Some flights have been rescheduled by the inter- Caribbean airline. Passengers booked on LIAT are encouraged to call the airline to check the status of their flights with their agent.
Seaborne Airlines has announced that it will let passengers scheduled to fly between Wednesday and Friday change their dates to up to Thursday, September 3, without any change fees due to the storm.
Passengers can gather information about their travels by viewing the “Flights Status” page of Princess Juliana International Airport www.sxmairport.com/ flights-info.php on the day of travel or one day ahead of the flight.
The airport will stay open today, Wednesday and will continue to monitor the weather conditions closely. The airport “remains prepared and alert” to the weather conditions and, if necessary, will activate the normal safety and security measures related to the passage of a storm system that could pose a threat to the users and workers of its facilities, according to a statement issued late Tuesday night
