Adult Education – Dutch Language Courses

On Monday, September 7th, 2015, Saba Reach Foundation will be starting its fourth language course term offering Dutch as a foreign language in collaboration with the NVAO (Nederlands-Vlaamse Accreditatieorganisatie) accredited University of the Dutch Caribbean located on Curacao. Upon successful completion of each course, students will receive a recognized University of the Dutch Caribbean certificate according to their attained language proficiency level. Based on demand, levels A1, A2 and B1+ will be coordinated in line with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) standards.  Dutch course levels A1, A2, B1, & B2 will be offered during the Spring 2016 term starting February 8th to June 30th, 2016.

  • Registration

Registration for the courses will take place at the Saba Reach office at the Eugenius Johnson Center in Windwardside between August 17th and 31st. A maximum of 10 students can be admitted into each Dutch level course. Please fill-in the form at the bottom of this document to register.

  • Duration

The 2015 fall term course will last 16 weeks between September 7th, 2015 and January 15th, 2016 with one week off in October for the mid-term break and two weeks off in December for the holidays.

  • Entrance Exams

Prospective students who prefer to immediately enroll in beginner’s level A2 or intermediate level B1+ must sit an online entrance exam during the week of September 1st at the Eugenius Johnson Center.

  • Final Exams

Final exams will be held during the week of January 18th, 2016. Results will be shared during the week of January 25th. Re-sits will also be scheduled during the week of January 25th.

 

The final exam will consist of 4 components: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Oral. The student must earn a cumulative score of 6/10 in order to pass the exam and receive a certificate. The student must also earn a score of at least 5/10 for each component in order to pass the exam and receive a certificate.

In the event of cancellation, classes will be rescheduled by the instructor.

Instructors will make use of an attendance sheet to monitor how students’ attendance influence performance on final results. Students with an attendance rate of less than 75% will not sit the final exams.

Please deposit all payments to the ‘Foundation Social Workplace Saba’ RBC account #8600000420728322 and submit the deposit receipt to the Saba Reach Foundation office accordingly as proof of payment. Students will not sit final exams or receive certificates unless all pending payment instalments have been transferred.
