Ten-year-old Zakiya Lake will represent her island of Saba at the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Annual Pathfinders Congressoree in Anguilla from October 9-11, writes The Daily Herald.
She will be the island’s first-ever representative to the gathering of young people from surrounding islands under the theme “A Powerful Generation: God restores to save and to serve.”
Lake is the product of Mount Scenery Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The church hosted its first-ever Pathfinder Day on Saturday. There are plans to expand Genesis Pathfinder Club of which Lake is now the only pathfinder.
Lake was born in the Netherlands and raised there and in the United Kingdom, before moving to Saba in 2013. She is a fifth grader who loves art and craft, shopping and cooking and hopes to become a fashion designer one day.
Lake said joining the Pathfinder Club will help to improve her personality and aid her to be a role model in the community. She hopes her membership in Genesis will encourage other children to join, and will help them further develop themselves spiritually and emotionally, and to become the new community leaders.
