Marines to host Open Day on Saba

The Royal Dutch Marines will be hosting an Open Day for the general public on Saturday October 17th from 1:00 to 4:00pm.

During this day the marines will give a demo of operations that they do as part of their mission in the Dutch Caribbbean. There will be activities like camouflage painting for children as well as for adults.

The marine ship HMLNS Pelikaan, a naval support vessel will be in port and persons will be able to take a tour of the ship as well as the Coast Guard vessel ,The Poema, which will also be on the island.

Prior to the Open Day activities there will be an emergency scenario that will simulate the evacuation of the island. Persons will be transported by school bus from various points on the island to the harbor where they will then board the navy ship.

The evacuation exercise and the Open Day are part of the annual Hurex simulations that aim to increase exchange between the Dutch Military, the Disaster Management organization and the local population.
