SRF holds follow-up computer courses

Saba Reach Foundation’s (SRF) Adult Education department organised follow-up Microsoft Office Word and Excel levels 1 and 2 courses October 12 through 15 at Eugenius Johnson Centre in Windwardside, writes The Daily Herald.

Some 29 people took part. These were employees of Saba Health Care Foundation, Island Communication Services, Laura Linzey Daycare Center, Employment Opportunities Saba, Child Focus Foundation and Saba Reach Foundation.

The courses were certified and offered through Training and Development Centre (TDC) in St. Maarten and instructed by accredited trainer Sharon Kjellquist, who travelled to Saba for this purpose.

The foundation also offered level 1 courses on Saba in collaboration with TDC this year in June. The event was funded and sponsored by participating organizations, the Saba Lions Club and Saba Reach Foundation.

SRF Youth Opportunity Path department Mentor Vincent Stroom was present during the courses and remarked on the participants’ enthusiasm and engagement. “The students were extremely attentive during the courses and appeared determined to upgrade their computer skills and knowledge,” he said.

Upon completion of the level 1 and 2 courses, participants received TDC certificates. Level 1 certifi cation signifi es that certifi cate holders should be able to create and edit basic Microsoft Office Excel workbooks and/or create, edit and enhance standard business documents using Microsoft Office Word.

Microsoft Office Excel 2 certification signifies that certificate holders should be able to use advanced formulas, work with various tools to analyse data in spreadsheets, organise table data, present data as charts and enhance the look and appeal of workbooks by adding graphical objects.

Microsoft Office Word 2 certification signifies that certificate holders should be able to create complex documents and build personalised efficiency tools.

Through the Adult Education department, SRF seeks to provide professional development courses and lifelong learning opportunities meant to upgrade the skills and knowledge of the adult population of Saba.

SRF hopes that more companies will invest in their employees by enrolling them in courses offered through its Adult Education Department in the future.
