Breast Cancer Awareness Run by WMSA attracts 120

Saba’s Women’s Medical Student Association (WMSA), in conjunction with Body, Mind & Spirit (BMS), organised this year’s run for breast cancer awareness. The run started in Windwardside just after 6:00pm, ending in the Bottom at the medical school where snacks, water and an information session were available to all of the approximately 120 enthusiastic participants.

WMSA took a greater role in the planning and promotion of the walk this year, working closely with BMS and Saba Lions Club.

In order to get the message out island-wide and encourage everyone to get involved the event was promoted early and often via posters, social media and word of mouth.

A vibrant pink tie dye shirt was available to each of the participants and represented the theme which helped attract more awareness about the event.

The organisers also secured donations for door prizes for the participants; a new addition to this year’s run. Dr. Joka Blaauboer of Saba Health Care Foundation (SHCF) attended and provided an informative presentation to the participants after the run.

Brianna Lynne, one of the WMSA organisers, said she was pleased the island was so well represented and that she felt the run was a big success.
