Investigations 'Hector' murder case ongoing

The forensic investigations in the so-called “Hector” murder case involving the death of 24-yearold student of Saba University School of Medicine Kavya Guda are still ongoing. Chief Prosecutor Henry Hambeukers said that forensic material found at the scene of the crime is currently being investigated by Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI).

“Such investigations take a lot of time and with each answer new questions raise for clarification,” Hambeukers said in explaining that the investigations are still in full swing.

“Once these questions are answered, conclusions may be drawn and targeted follow- up research started,” he said.

Guda was found dead in her apartment in The Bottom on April 15. A 27-yearold male fellow student of the victim was arrested on June 1 in connection with the homicide, but released by an Investigation Judge in Bonaire on July 25. I

Investigators from the Netherlands, the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States are working together on this case. Several homes in Saba were searched during the investigations.

The suspect was released by the Judge because there was insufficient proof that he had been in the victim’s bedroom.

DNA-investigations at the time revealed that the suspect could not be the only suspect in this case, the Investigating Judge stated, while there were also no indications that the alleged crime was committed by two suspects jointly. Based on these circumstances, the Judge of Instruction decided to lift the suspect’s pre-trial detention.

The suspect, who claimed he had been one of the best students on Saba, maintained his innocence throughout the investigations. The Prosecutor’s Office objected to the man’s release from custody. Thus far, no other arrests have been made in this case.
