Saba community rallies around family after fire

The Saba community has opened it hearts and offered assistance and supplies to the Leverock family after their home in St. John’s was destroyed by fire Wednesday, writes The Daily Herald.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the Saba Fire Department said Thursday.

Pat Nation at Saba University School of Medicine is accepting donations of clothes, linens, household items and whatever people can spare for the stricken family.

Wanda Marie Hassell has set up a “Go Fund Me” page which has already collected US $790 of the target amount of $5,000. Anyone wishing to donate can go to: www.gofundme.com/89b2gya4.

“We, as Scout’s Place team, are very shocked since Lillian [Leverock – Ed.] is one of our longest co-workers. We were very happy when she qualified for the nurse position and worked her way up to be a registered nurse. Lillian is always smiling and a friendly person who is very much liked by us as the owners and her co-workers.

“She works, many times, two jobs and is very hard working and reliable. The staff of Scout’s Place and management are very shocked about this. She is always there when needed. Besides being a great person, we appreciate her very much. She deserve much better than this” Scout’s Place owner Wolfgang Tooten said.
