Tourism Director takes away Christmas Bingo's big prize

On Sunday, Saba Lions Club organised their yearly Christmas bingo and food sale. For many years this has been the club’s most popular fundraising event, and this year was no exception with a full house at Eugenius Johnson Centre and all bingo cards sold out, writes The Daily Herald.

Next to that, not a single chicken leg, Johnny Cake or crumb of fruit cake was left after the food sale. The atmosphere was merry and the event kicked off the holiday month in a festive way.

Over thirty bingo games were played and prizes, such as baskets filled with holiday goodies, baking supplies, liquor and eggnog, and a load of hams and turkeys were won all around.

The grand prize winner was Saba’s Director of Tourism Glenn Holm, who received roundtrip airline tickets to St. Maarten, donated by Windward Islands Airways International Winair, and a hotel voucher for a seven-night stay at The Summit Resort Hotel in St. Maarten, a large basket full of goodies, and a ham and turkey.

Saba Lions Club expressed its gratitude to both Winair and The Summit for their continued generous support of the Club’s fundraising efforts that assist them in generating the necessary funds to give back to those in need within Saba’s community.

The Lions will be hosting their annual Christmas tree lighting and carolling on Friday, December 11, at 6:00pm. Various community groups will be giving renditions of songs, and the community will be asked to sing along.

On Sunday, December 20, the Saba Lions Club will host its annual Santa’s Parade and gift giving, which will commence at Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, move across the island and end up at Princess Juliana Sports Field in The Bottom where all children up to eight years old will receive a gift from the Club. As is customary the Lions will host a food sale and raffle during this event and the community is asked to come out and support in great numbers as they usually do.
