UP: Family bonds with Saba cannot be broken

The strong family bonds between Saba and St. Maarten can “never be broken” and form the basis for the islands to “continue to work together and develop,” said United People’s (UP) party leader Member of Parliament (MP) Theo Heyliger on the occasion of Saba Day. The neighbouring Dutch Caribbean island marked the day on Friday.

St. Maarten works closely in the tourism field with Saba as well as Anguilla, St. Barths and St. Eustatius. Much more can be done among the islands to promote sustainable growth and development, he said.

Heyliger, who has strong connections to Saba, and the party board, wished the Government and people of Saba well on the occasion that celebrates all things Saban.

Friday’s festivities marked the 40th annual celebration of Saba Day. “This is indeed a milestone for the little fivesquare- mile island which is the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands,” Heyliger said in a party press release.
