The ninth Annual Saba People’s Choice Award Show was held Saturday at Eugenius A. Johnson Centre in Windwardside, writes The Daily Herald.
Organised by Malofi Foundation and Lorsim Productions, and hosted by Lorna Simmons, the programme included a talent and culture show.
During the presentation of the awards there were several performances, such as by Elvis Levenstone, Thaddeus Nicholson and the One Blood Band and Irvine Riley.
A broad variety of awards in several categories were handed out during the lively evening. Via the People’s Choice Awards the people of Saba had the chance to choose their “best of the best” for 2014/2015 in the categories Music and Arts, Sports and Education, and Business and Economy.
Principal of Sacred Heart Primary School Diane Wilson was elected Person of the Year.
In the Music and Arts category People’s Choice Awards went to best band Entyce, best lady singer Saskia Matthew, best male singer Irving Riley/ Topo, best instrument player Roeloph Matthew, best song “Carnival is You” by Cirilio Marten and best painting by Mary Thielman.
Awards in the Sports and Education section were won by best team The Boxing Team, best woman athlete Tyanne Nicholson, best male athlete Devon Benders, best coach Roderick Lovell, best teacher Ashley Hassell-Nason and best student Lois Joseph.
The awards in the Business and Economy section were distributed as follows: best organisation Child Focus, best store (supermarket, hairdresser or office) My Store, best gift-, souvenir-, dive shop or boutique Everythings, best restaurant Sea Witch, best employee Mary Anastasia Simmons, best hotel or guesthouse Queen’s Gardens Resort, best businessman/ employer Jeffrey Zagers.
