Discussions held on high speed inter-island ferry service for SSS-Islands

Government officials from Saba and Sint Eustatius recently met with Mr. Andin Bikker, an Aruban parliamentarian and Mr. Ton Jansen. Mr. Jansen is currently working on a feasibility study for a high-speed ferry service for cargo, cars and passengers between Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. Mr. Jansen and Mr. Bikker took the opportunity to investigate if parties on Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius would be interested in such a ferry service between the ‘SSS-islands’ as well.

After the meeting with the representatives, Commissioner Bruce Zagers said, “A high-speed ferry between the SSS-islands, and also St Kitts and St Barths could be a great added value for our islands, but there still is a long way to go, the process is at a very early stage. We are interested to hear from Mr. Jansen what the opportunities are, but we also want to make sure that future developments do not harm our local transportation providers, who successfully serve our island already.”

Commissioner Zaandam of Sint Eustatius, on Saba for the Saba Summit held on January 9th, took the opportunity to attend the meeting as well.
