LGBT documentary also screened on Saba

Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community on Saba organized a screening of the new documentary “One Kingdom, One Love” Saturday at Eugenius Johnson Centre in Windwardside.

The documentary tells several stories about LGBT people on and from the Dutch Caribbean islands and ties this in with the celebration of Gay Pride in Amsterdam in 2015.

The film also features Saba’s “own” Justin Simmons, who represented Saba at the pride event in Amsterdam.

After the screening, a panel discussion was led by LGBT-community members Jackie Daley, Pieter van Amsterdam, Justin Simmons and special guest Lysanne Charles- Arrindell, President of the St. Maarten Alliance for Equality SAFE.

The discussions with some 40 attendees were lively and several issues about LGBT acceptance were discussed.

The screening was sponsored by Body, Mind and Spirit as part of their work with the Pink Orange Alliance, in which the foundation strives for full acceptance of the LGBT community by Saba’s society.

  1. Saba is so far ahead of the other Caribbean islands when it comes to LGBT equality and embracing diversity in general. Saba rocks!
