Saba families sell their land to build a new Day Care and Kindergarden in St. Johns

Following a long period of meetings between de Public Entity, the Central Government Building Agency and the Hassell, Barnes, Wilson and Winfield families, the way has been cleared to transfer a piece of undeveloped land near the school complex in St. Johns to the Public Entity. The land is needed in order to build a new school building in St. Johns for the children of the Laura Linzey Day Care Center and the toddlers of the Sacred Heart School.

Commissioner of Education, Mr. Chris Johnson and the head of RCN Education, Culture and Science Unit, Mr. Nolly Oleana, are very grateful to the families concerned for their willing cooperation in this for Saba important project. Notary Ms. Marlene Mingo is instrumental in orchestrating the legal transfer of the land and ensuring payment thereof. She will hold the payment on a specifically designated bank account on behalf of the rightful heirs.

Immediately after the legal transfer at the start of 2016, the tender will start for the construction of the new Kindergarden and Day Care Center. In October 2012 the Public Entity of Saba and the Ministry of Education Culture and Science (OCW) signed the 2012-2016 Education Housing Plan Saba. This plan provides for the improvement of all school buildings on Saba. The realization of the new building for the Laura Linzey Day Care and the kindergarden groups of the Sacred Heart School is the second project that will be realized. Besides, the renovation of the P.L. Granger Auditorium is now being worked on.

At the same time with the transfer of the land in St. Johns, the land in The Bottom will also be transferred to the Public Entity. It regards a piece of land for which in 2010 arrangements were made to realize the Community School. This plan has changed with the Education Housing plan 2012-2016 Saba. The concerned land in The Bottom will be designated for an education purpose.
