SUSOM students donated to Saba Conservation Foundation

The fall 2015 honors society members raised funds through various fundraising activities. These funds are then donated to a community-based organization. The Saba Conservation Foundation (SCF) received a donation for Education Activities such as Environmental Education in the Sacred Heart School, and the after-school Sea Scouts program. Leslie Revel accepted this award on behalf of the SCF and gave a short presentation encouraging the new students to explore the island of Saba and volunteer with the SCF during their 20 months on the island.

The funds were donated by the Alpha Omega Phi Honor and Service Society of the Saba University School of Medicine (SUSOM)’s during the White Coat Ceremony for the entering class of Spring 2016 and the induction of a select group of fifth semester medical students into the Society on January 8th, 2016 on SUSOM’s campus.

The Alpha Omega Phi Honor and Service Society is a non-profit organization promoting public health through community awareness and educational activities, as well as community service in partnerships with local stakeholders. Eligibility into the society is based on a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 86 or higher and participation in at least four credits for service projects within the community. Each candidate must embody the values promoted by the school as befitting the medical profession. Their extra-curricular volunteer service includes academic mentoring, various student club participation, and other community service efforts.
