Pledge for Parity on Women's Day

Each year under the Island Governor’s portfolio, the Island Government of Saba organizes Women’s Day events. This year’s activities under the theme, “Pledge for Parity” kicked off Saturday at Topogigo’s in The Bottom.

Originally and proudly from Saba, but current St. Maarten resident Ramona Riley-Juan Pedro, delivered a dynamic motivational speech. Riley-Juan Pedro has dedicated her life to the furtherance of women. The emphasis was on women’s empowerment with a focus on self-worth, self-confidence and goal setting.

The ambiance welcomed women to interact with each other, and regain an interest in their own roles.

This year, the organizer decided to have a two-day event for Women’s Day with the pre-gathering held Saturday, and the official church service and toast to be held on Tuesday, March 8, at 8:00am.

This year’s organizers were First Lady Rosalyn Johnson, Island Council Member Monique Wilson, Jessica Gumbs and Paula Child. This group of ladies wanted to present an awareness of women by women.

Saba is a unique island with women from different stages and talents, and highlighting their unique abilities and future aspirations was a focal point, the organizers said.
