EC2 holds Autism Awareness Month

ec2 autism awareness day
From left: Director of Expertise Center Education Care EC2 Jet van Heijnsbergen, physical therapist Kim te Riele, psychologist Carmencita Chemont, speech and language therapist Anna Kox, behavioural coach Jessie Voermans, and school social worker Ron Lemstra.

Apart from interesting articles, EC2 shares its own TV productions including an informative presentation and a short movie titled “The Gift of Autism.” In this locallymade video students state many positive traits of autism, such as being authentic, honest, reliable, observant, and punctual in following a plan or routine. The specials can be watched on local cable TV as well as EC2’s YouTube channel.

All visitors to EC2 in St. John’s will receive an autism ribbon this month. The ribbon is designed as a puzzle, reflecting the complexity of the autism spectrum. The different colours and shapes represent the diversity of the people and families living with the condition. The brightness of the ribbon signals hope that through increased awareness of autism, and through early intervention and access to appropriate services and support, people with autism will lead full lives, able to interact with the world on their own terms.

Flyers with general information and practical tips will be available at several public places on Saba.
