Earth Day Island Clean Up Success

The Earth Day Island Wide Clean Up held last Friday April 22nd, was deemed a success by organizers. The event which brought together over 150 participants saw volunteers going through the island’s villages picking up discarded litter which had been disposed throughout the built up areas and also below the roads.

The event brought together students of the Saba Comprehensive School, staff members of the Saba Conservation Foundation, civil servants of The Public Entity and RCN as well as volunteers from the community. The Saba Lions Club donated the water given out participants of the event.

The organizers of the event said that because of the higher turnout this year, more litter could be retrieved. However the volume of waste shows that there is still a considerable amount of persons who are disposing of waste in the wrong way. There will be more awareness toward this growing problem in the short term.

After the cleanup, there was a BBQ for all volunteers at the Princess Juliana Sports Field.
