General
Korps Politie Caribisch Nederland (KPCN; the Dutch Caribbean Police Force) is a small and dynamic force (151.5 FTEs) which was established on 10-10-10 and whose work area is the islands of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. Although the force is small in size, it contains all processes of a full-fledged force. After a pioneering phase, the force has now entered a phase of further professionalisation. The objective for the coming years is: “getting the basics in order”, which means that the force will be developed further, both quantitatively and qualitatively. In this context we are looking for enthusiastic, versatile, flexible employees who want to build the future of the force together with us.

Description of the department
Basic Police Care (Basispolitiezorg, hereafter BPZ) focuses on the area-specific performance of operational police duties on the three BES islands. BPZ has 5 chiefs who report to the head of BZP, who also is the Deputy Chief of Police. Each chief directs a team of approximately 20 colleagues. In case of appointment on Bonaire it may occur that one will be asked to work on one of the Windward Islands on a temporary basis (3 months), if required. We therefore are looking for flexible colleagues who show initiative and who can react quickly with us.

Job description
As a BPZ Officer you will contribute to the maintenance of public order, safety and quality of life by independently performing operational police duties for the purpose of addressing safety issues. Furthermore you will supervise foreigners during regular surveillance.

Job requirements

  • MBO level of working and thinking, MBO-3 level police training;
  • knowledge of relevant parts of criminal law, law of criminal procedure and administrative law;
  • knowledge of and experience with the application of documentation and registration systems (Actpol for example);
  • knowledge of and skilled in conflict mediation;
  • knowledge of, some experience with and skilled in emergency assistance and incident management;
  • knowledge of and an active command of Dutch, Papiamentu and English and possibly Spanish;
  • meeting the IBT integrated professional skills training] requirements annually in conformity with regulation;
  • additional certificates concerning specific duties/additional tasks where necessary.

Employment conditions
In case of an unchanged organisation structure and good performance, KPCN offers the opportunity to take an MBO-4 level training course.

The salary for this position falls within the following margins:

Initial salary scale 5: minimum $ 1,363.00 to maximum $ 1,946.00
Job salary scale 6: minimum $ 1,554.00 to maximum $ 2,225.00

The salary will be determined, within the aforementioned margins, depending on training and experience.

One is required to be able to submit a Certificate of Good Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG), a positive result of the medical examination and a sports test and these are part of the selection procedure. An assessment and a situation analysis may be part of the selection procedure.
