Infection Prevention committee to further improve hygiene measures and infection prevention

It has been a year since Saba Healthcare Foundation (SHCF) and Benevolent Foundation Saba (BFS) initiated the Working Group Infection Prevention committee to further improve hygiene measures and infection prevention in the medical centre and the home, writes The Daily Herald.

One of the first activities was a baseline assessment of current infection control measures. The committee has developed guidelines for employee vaccinations, for needle-prick incidents and for the search and management of MRSA (a bacterium resistant to many common antibiotics).

Other initiatives are a Zika meeting for employees and the organisation of training for cleaning staff.

The Committee is working on areas in need of improvements such as changing the types of pillows and garbage bins, stimulating hand hygiene and streamlining laundry and waste management.

The Committee comprises Dr. Gina Boorsma (SHCF), BFS Quality Care Officer and Manager Pieter van Amsterdam, SHCF Quality Control Officer Laura Schmitt and Koen Hulshof of the Public Health Department.
