SZW provides financial support to children for secondary school education

To improve the standard of living of vulnerable groups each year there is the possibility, for parents who have children that follow the secondary education, to get a contribution towards the costs for school supplies.

The Unit Social Affairs and Labor allows parents or guardians who are entitled to assistance or have a joint income lower or equal to $ 814 (Bonaire), $ 921 (Statia) and $ 930 (Saba) per month the opportunity to submit a request for Special Assistance for the cost of school supplies and school uniforms. Other criteria that one has to meet is that the parent or guardian must be registered in the population register (Census Office) for five years.

The items that the parents or guardians receive include a package consisting of a calendar, pen, pencil, Eraser, set square etc. Also you will receive a voucher for 3 jeans trousers, 1 bag and sneakers of choice can be picked up at the supplier in the value of the voucher. The school uniforms can also be obtained via a voucher at the supplier.

There are special consultation hours held to be able to do the intake. On Bonaire, one can apply until June 24th, 2016. This can be done on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 pm to 3:30 pm at the SOCIAL AFFAIRS Office, Center area z/n. On St. Eustatius one can apply on June 15th or 16th, from 8 am to 12 noon and 1:30 pm to 4 pm in the SOCIAL AFFAIRS Office, Cottage Road z/n. Also on Saba, there were special days held to apply. It is also possible to submit a request at a later time, but please be advised to submit your application on time so that the items will be in your possession on time for the new school year.
