Saba Carnival season kicks off this weekend

The 2016 Carnival season kicks off on Saba, Saturday, July 23. The weeklong activities will commence with a concert featuring Small Axe Band from St. Kitts and King Beau Beau and the Beaubettes of Dutch St. Maarten. This show is being hosted by C &Cool Cab Productions.

The Children’s Parade and Family Fun Day will be held Sunday, July 24, featuring bouncy castles, various games and fun-filled interaction with some favourite cartoon characters. The Children’s Parade will begin at 4:00pm.

The official opening of Carnival will take place on Monday, July 25, starting off with a Lighted Parade from St. Johns at 7:30pm, followed by musical entertainment, featuring Nuff Respect Band from French St. Martin.

Entyce Proggers and Party People Association will present “Menage A Trois: The Soca Edition Aruba, Saba and Trinidad”, on Tuesday, July 26, featuring Trinidad’s Soca sensation Olatunji, Saba’s own Entyce Band and Jeon from Aruba.

Caribbean Latin Night, featuring Marino Castellano from the Dominican Republic and North Sound International of Anguilla will be held on Wednesday, July 27. Festivities continue on Thursday, July 28, featuring the Miss Dutch Caribbean Queen Pageant. Participants from fi ve Dutch Caribbean islands will vie for the title of Miss Dutch Caribbean Queen.

Big Time Productions will host “Jump Off Friday” on July 29, featuring DJ Pauly and XP Band of St. Maarten, along with Grandmasters Band of St. Kitts, and the highlight for the evening Soca queen Allison Hinds.

Thereafter, revellers go right into J’ouvert Morning, Saturday, July 30, starting in Windwardside at 4:00am. The Grand Parade will be held later in the day at 4:00pm, followed by on-stage performances in Carnival Village.

The Second Grand Parade on Sunday, July 31, will also commence at 4:00pm, to continue into the last party night in the Village, featuring Spectrum Band of St. Thomas.
