UTS billing system upgrade completed without incident

United Telecommunications Services (UTS) has successfully completed an upgrade of its billing platform for its Chippie mobile services over the weekend. The upgrade was carried out between the hours of 3:00pm on Saturday, and 5:00am on Sunday.

The system’s upgrade was carried out for the islands of St. Maarten, St. Martin, St. Barths, Saba, St. Eustatius, Curaçao and Bonaire and was completed without incident, UTS said over the weekend. The maintenance window was communicated in advance to customers by Short Messaging Service (SMS), newspaper and Facebook.

The upgrade gives the mobile operator the ability to introduce new services and features, and allows the company to cater even more specifically to the individual needs of customers. Enhancements are expected to premiere soon for both business and private customers in many areas, UTS said. For the islands of St. Eustatius, Saba and St. Martin this upgrade meant the immediate transition of its post-paid customers to new, more flexible 3-in-1 bundle packages. The packages combine minutes, SMS and mobile internet in a variety of different configuration options. This group of post-paid customers had been informed of the transition in advance to allow them to choose the package best suited to their needs.

Another new introduction that will take place soon is the prepaid variant of the 3-in-1 bundles for Saba and St. Eustatius. The new bundles will be introduced in conjunction with faster 4G LTE mobile internet services. “There has been a great level of excitement in the communities of these islands surrounding these introductions,” UTS Marketing and Communication Officer Ivy Lambert said in the release. “We are actually also quite excited to be able to offer the fastest possible mobile internet connection to our valued customers. This faster service opens up a host of possibilities in terms of applications and communication – the most notable of which is seamless video streaming. This means that our customers on the various islands in the Eastern Caribbean will have access to new plans of their choosing.”

The new plans prepaid and post-paid 3-in-1 bundles unite minutes, mobile internet and SMS to offer customers the best possible rate for all three of the staples of mobile service. The combination of all three elements enables the user to get the most out of a smartphone and brings greater savings as well.

According to UTS, the simplicity and transparency of the plans is what makes the new plans so attractive. Customers can choose a combination of minutes, texts and mobile internet, and can check how much they have used at any given time. This puts the customer in control of his or her mobile expenses. If they need more than they expected, they can always add additional minutes or mobile internet if needed. They also have the flexibility to switch to another plan that better suits their needs, if they so desire. “Our new plans will truly change the way the customer experiences Chippie mobile service. You design the plan that best suits you. Whether you’re looking for a low-commitment solution, or if you’re a heavy user that spends hours daily using your phone; we have a plan to suit your needs.”

Customers with questions and those in need of assistance following the upgrade can contact UTS customer service by telephone at +1721-5881010, email: infosxm@ uts.sx, Facebook message: UTS EC, or in person at any of the three UTS store locations in St. Maarten, St. Martin, Gem Enterprises in St. Eustatius and SATEL in Saba.
