Saba Reach certifies computer students

Saba Reach Foundation’s (SRF) Adult Education Department organized Microsoft Office Word and Excel levels one and two courses as a part of its fall 2016 term course offering.

Each course began in September and consisted of nine one-and-a-half-hour sessions taught by certified instructor Nina Pedersen. Each course culminated with a one-day intensive which took the form of self-assessment, and was taught by certified instructor Sharon Kjellquist, who represented the Training and Development Centre (TDC) on St. Maarten.

After demonstrating mastery of the material in the intensive, each participant received a TDC Microsoft Office certificate. All classes took place at Sunny Valley Youth Centre in The Bottom.

Twenty participants took part in the courses sponsored by their employers, the Island Government of Saba, Saba Benevolent Foundation, Saba Comprehensive School, Child Focus, and Government Service Caribbean Netherlands RCN.

“I’ve returned to teaching after a couple years, and knowing that I’m sharing skills and knowledge that are valuable to so many people in our community makes it even more enjoyable to be back in the computer classroom,” said Pedersen.

Level-1 certification signifies that holders should be able to create and edit basic Microsoft Office Excel workbooks and/or create, edit and enhance standard business documents using Microsoft Office Word.

Microsoft Office Excel 2 certification signifies that holders should be able to use advanced formulas, work with various tools to analyse data in spreadsheets, organise table data, present data as charts, and enhance the look and appeal of workbooks by adding graphical objects.

Word-2 certification signifies that holders should be able to create complex documents and build personalised efficiency tools.

Through its Adult Education Department, SRF seeks to provide professional development courses and lifelong learning opportunities to upgrade the skills and knowledge of the adult population of Saba.

SRF hopes that companies and organizations will continue to invest in their employees by enrolling them in courses offered through its Adult Education Department in the future. The next computer courses will take place in the spring 2017 term, starting in February.
