At the end of January, a group of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute KNMI, consisting of a volcanologist and seismologists, will visit Saba.
For years, seismological meters have been stationed on Saba. Currently, there are four so called seismometers on Saba, which send information to the KNMI in De Bilt in the centre of the Netherlands, about ground motions.
The visiting group will carry out maintenance on the instruments on Saba and will look into possible new locations to expand the monitoring network. They will also meet with officials of the Public Entity.
Next to monitoring seismic activity, the KNMI also provides weather forecasting and drought information.
