Saba will be hosting its 10th edition of one of the toughest short triathlons on Saturday January 28th 2017. This year 60 participants have registered for the triathlon from Saba, St. Maarten, St. Martin, St. Eustatius, USA, Canada and the Netherlands. During the triathlon there will be individual participants, as well as teams. The race will begin at the Fort Bay Harbor at 8:00am with an 800 meter open water swim. Contestants will then have to bike from the Fort Bay up to the Mountain Road in Windwardside, where they will then start running on a route through the Crispeen Trail, Bottom Mountain Trail and onto the Sandy Cruz trail. After reaching the end of the Sandy Cruz trail in Hell’s Gate, the contestants will then have to run to the Tourist Bureau parking lot, located in Windwardside. The night before the triathlon there will be a safety briefing for all participants.
The Tourist Bureau parking lot, which will be prepared and decorated by committee members and volunteers, will be the official finish line for the triathlon, with the final ceremony also occurring there. DJ Davio will also be having his weekly Saturday radio program live from the balcony of Tourist Bureau, which will include live music, entertainment and interviews of participants. Hideaway and Bizzy Bee will be open and onlookers can purchase drinks and food to enjoy while waiting for the arrival of the contestants. Long Haul Bar and Grill will be catering a lunch for the triathlon participants and volunteers. Hideaway will later be hosting the after party for the triathlon.
The Public Entity Saba would like to invite the community to come out and cheer on the contestants as they approach the finish line and would also like to remind everyone to take safety precautions and to try to limit road traffic during the hours of the triathlon.
