Saba Commissioner of Education Visits US Universities & Colleges

Commissioner of Education Bruce Zagers, along with Island Secretary Tim Muller, will be travelling today to the US on an educational mission to visit six different universities in five states. The universities which the Commissioner will be visiting are: St Thomas University in Miami, Florida, Universal Technical Institute in Orlando, Florida which specializes in mechanics, Pittsburgh Technical College in Pennsylvania, Indian Hills Community College in Iowa, Lindenwood University in Missouri and Lipscomb University in Tennessee. Most of these schools currently have Saban students enrolled, with the exception of Pittsburgh Technical College and Universal Technical Institute.

The main purpose of this mission is to make agreements with the mentioned schools in order to make studying abroad for Saban students more affordable. While the two technical schools do not currently have Saban students enrolled, they have indicated that they are open to working with Saba to facilitate students from Saba attending in the future. Both schools offer one year certification programs, which is an option that will be explored. The possibility of having tailor-made programs for civil servants at these two schools will also be discussed during this visit. Commissioner Zagers stated, “The willingness that these schools have displayed to work with the Public Entity Saba and with the students of Saba, has generated much enthusiasm among us. I am eager to commence this educational mission on behalf of the students of Saba and I am hopeful that on my return I will have good news to impart.”
