Jan Helmond appointed as acting Dutch representative

Former Island Secretary of St. Eustatius Jan Helmond has been appointed Acting Dutch Government Representative (Rijksvertegenwoordiger.) Helmond’s temporary appointment will start on Wednes­day, November 8.

The Kingdom Council of Ministers ap­proved Helmond’s appointment on recommendation of State Secretary of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops. Currently, there is no Acting Dutch Government Representative for Bonaire, Statia and Saba.

 

Government Representative Gilbert Isabella will be leaving his position as per January I, 2018. Helmond will then be taking over temporarily until a new Dutch Gov­ernment Representative has been appointed.

The Government Representative is a liaison between the Dutch Government in The Hague and the three public entities Bonaire, Statia and Saba.

Helmond is and will remain the current Director of Dutch Government Service Caribbean Netherlands RCN. He was Island Secretary of Statia between Decem­ber 2010 and August 2014.

In Holland, he was Director of the Social Service of Wal­cheren and Director Social Affairs with the municipality of Middelburg, both in Zeeland province.
