61.3 pound catch wins Wahoo Tournament

Nicholas Johnson and crew of Briana Jamie, from Saba, won the Saba Day Wahoo Tournament with a 61.3 pound catch.

A total of 21 boats feature 100 crew of which 90 were male, three female and seven were juniors com­peted in the tournament. The fleet included 10 boats from Saba as well as fisher­man from both sides of the Friendly Island, Statia, St.Barths and St. Kitts.

St. Maarten’s Team Ben Hardy on Highliner took Most Overall Weight with a haul of 478.4 pounds of fish.

Blue Crush Team of Ran­dal and Jabinge Zaegers of Saba won third prize with the second largest total with 413.2 pounds of fish. The Largest Mahi Mahi was hooked by Empress Lora crewed by Ram of Pe­ter Bonev of St. Maarten. The fish weighed in at 26.6 pounds.

The St. Eustatius team of Berry Bruce and Willian de Gannes on Sea Hawk Ram landed the Largest King-fish at 28.8 pounds. The team was also named Best Dressed Crew.

The Most Barracudas caught went to Saba’s Ram Allister Hassell on Now and Then. They caught 13.

Best Jr. Angler went to Jabinge Zaegers of Ram Blue Crush with a Wahoo weighing 55.2 pounds.
