Tropical Storm Beryl causes no major disruptions on Saba, Statia

Life in St. Eustatius and Saba experienced no sig­nificant disruptions caused by Tropical Storm Beryl. Winair and other airlines conducted business as usual to St. Eustatius. The tropical storm did bring plenty of rain, thunder and lightning.

Many Statians were thank­ful for the rain as the dry season had caused utility company EUTEL to ration water to residents and businesses.

A few businesses that are located on the Bay were shuttered for the day and a few summer-school estab­lishments, as well as Buzzy Bee Inn and Day Care Cen­tre was closed for the day in a precautionary measure.

During the passing of storm Beryl NuStar NV/ Statia Terminal had their barge and tugboats put out to sea. These vessels are normally moored at Charles A. Woodley pier.

Beryl passed 125 miles south of Saba late Sunday night/early Monday morn­ing. Residents were urged to avoid Fort Bay Road and the Harbour from late Sun­day night to Monday morn­ing.

Residents were advised to unplug electrical devices as Beryl could have led to electrical storms. Residents were also urged to make sure the yards around their homes and businesses were clean.
