Nine members of the Permanent Committee for Kingdom Relations of the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament visited the three Windward Islands from July 11 to 15. Their visit resulted in a total of 43 questions to State Secretary Knops. The politicians will be on leave during the summer period, so the Committee is willing to wait for answers until August 27.
Some of the questions focused on travel issues in the Caribbean. Knops was asked to provide a so-called fact sheet with basic data about Winair. This is the only airline that connects Saba to other islands. The Committee wants information on the ownership situation, key performance indicators, number of employees, number of job positions, the financial situation over the past 5 years, salary level of the top, flight tax for the different islands.
The Committee also wants to know from Knops if it is true that flights to Saba and Sint Eustatius are regularly canceled in favor of flights to St Barths.
Finally the Committee asked for an overview of the flight prices between the islands with different airlines? With the questions to Knops, hopefully there will be some more inside to the situation at the carrier.
The full list of questions is here (in Dutch).
