Sabans reminded of ban on flying drones

The Public Entity Saba reminded the public that it is forbidden to fly drones on Saba due to the risks for flight operations and construction work

The island government was informed last week about drones flying above and around the construction site at Juancho Yrausquin Airport. which is currently under renovation, Saba Government Information Service (SGIS) said.

Although the airport is currently closed, medical transport with helicopters still takes place. Drones can jeopardize the safety of pilots and passengers. it was stated.

In the interest of the documentation of the construction work at the airport, a local business with experience in the field was requested to shoot drone images and videos at a safe distance from the construction site. Specific safety procedures have been put in place to make this possible, among which constant contact between the drone operator and the airport manager, a government statement read. “We urge the public not to fly drones anywhere on Saba,” the public entity said.
