Statia organized workshop “Child and Care in Caribbean Netherlands”

The Ministries of Social Affairs and Employment; Health, Welfare and Sport and Education, Culture and Science together with the Public Entities of St. Eustatius, Saba and Bonaire are hosting a three day follow-up workshop on child and afterschool care in The Caribbean Netherlands. The event, “BES(t) 4 kids” is taking place from October 9th through 11th in the Mike van Putten Youth Centre on St. Eustatius.  Participating in the three days event are civil servants of the Public Entities of Saba, St. Eustatius and Bonaire.

This meeting is a follow-up to a first work session held on Bonaire in June 2018. The objective to arrive at a joint multi-annual plan of approach.

During the work meeting in June participants investigated where and how Public Entities and Ministries could work together. The first steps have also been taken towards a joint multi-annual plan of approach. Participants in the meeting at the Mike van Putten Youth Centre will also take follow-up steps so that an administrative decision can be taken before the end of this year. During the 3 days they will focus on among others improvement of the quality, supervision and the accessibility of finances.

On all three islands consultations have started with the administrators of childcare, after school care and education institutions on all three islands in order to receive feedback of what they think about the plans.
