Sea & Learn closing night event Friday, October 26

Last night, Sea & Learn 2018 organised its final event at Scout’s Place. For the 16th consecutive year, the program has brought a variety of intriguing scientific experts from around the world to share their passion and research with the island of Saba.

Hands on activities have included counting the number of Hogfish on our reefs, looking for mosquito breeding habitats, exploring the new Mary’s Point Trail to learn about Saba’s exciting history and surveying Saba’s reefs to gauge the health based on coral disease and herbivore presence.

Dutch scientist Guido Leurs was the closing night expert. His love for sharks and his quest to protect them has him globetrotting from Africa to the Caribbean. He presented the results of his months of research on the Saba Bank where he recently discovered the silky shark.   Besides interesting presentations,Sea & Learn brought  Sea & Learn Trivia, raffle prizes, and tasty food and drink options.

If you have missed it, all night-time presentations can be viewed live (or after the event) on the Sea & Learn’s facebook page.  The full calendar, bios of experts and sponsor information can be found on http://www.seaandlearn.org/
