Last week Friday, members of Saba Electric Company’s (SEC’s) production department received certificates for their successful completion of a two-part training course as part of the company’s policy to keep its powerplant workers certified and up to date in the field of electricity production.
The training was given by mechanical engineer B. Armando and electrical engineer S. Mehairjan of Bepect Ltd. for the 7-member production team.
The electrical cornponent focused on theoretical training for power-system operations, specifically single and three-phase systems, generators, paralleling and safety rules and regulations. Participants were also shown how to read a single-line diagram of Saba’s medium voltage system.
The mechanical component focused on the fundamentals of diesel engines, specifically the fuel system, lubricant oil system and cooling water system of SEC’s Caterpillar and ABC engines.
Other topics covered were air intake and exhaust and maintenance management and concepts. Participants were also informed about the workings of SEC’s solar park.
At the end of the training, all seven powerplant workers were awarded their certificates. In addition, Bepect provided SEC’s production department
with a safety and quality handbook and a handbook for powerplant-safety signs. Bepect also provided SEC with a procedure on how to properly enter Elmer Linzey Powerplant.
