Saba Electric Company employees pass electrical/mechanical course

Last week Friday, members of Saba Electric Company’s (SEC’s) pro­duction department re­ceived certificates for their successful completion of a two-part training course as part of the company’s pol­icy to keep its powerplant workers certified and up to date in the field of electric­ity production.

The training was given by mechanical engineer B. Armando and electrical engineer S. Mehairjan of Bepect Ltd. for the 7-mem­ber production team.

Power plant workers displaying their certificates along with Saba Electric Company (SEC) Managing Director Charles Johnson, Powerplant Manager Daniel Johnson and Bepect instructors at the end of the five-day course.

The electrical cornponent focused on theoretical training for power-system operations, specifically single and three-phase systems, generators, paral­leling and safety rules and regulations. Participants were also shown how to read a single-line diagram of Saba’s medium voltage system.
The mechanical compo­nent focused on the funda­mentals of diesel engines, specifically the fuel system, lubricant oil system and cooling water system of SEC’s Caterpillar and ABC engines.
Other topics covered were air intake and exhaust and maintenance management and concepts. Participants were also informed about the workings of SEC’s solar park.

At the end of the training, all seven powerplant work­ers were awarded their certificates. In addition, Bepect provided SEC’s production department
with a safety and quality handbook and a handbook for powerplant-safety signs. Bepect also provided SEC with a procedure on how to properly enter Elmer Linzey Powerplant.
