Commissioner Wilson visits renovations at Saba’s hospital

Saba Commissioner Rolando Wilson visited the renovation project at the A.M. Edwards Medical Center on Wednesday. On that day, the doors were opened to the renovated clinic.

Together with social worker Lucretia Paulina, Wilson got a tour from nurse Kendrick Lake. The Commissioner, who has public health in his portfolio, was impressed by the renovation project at the hospital and what has been achieved so far. The project isn’t entirely completed as yet, but the improvements to the hospital facilities so far are major.

Already completed as part of the renovation project were X-ray room, the facility office, the ambulance bay, the bereavement area and the electrical distribution system. The current phase of the renovations, which are nearing completion, include the reception area, doctor’s offices, nurse’s station and the four patient rooms, two of which can accommodate three patients and two are private rooms.

On Wednesday morning, the doors were opened to the renovated clinic. Some work still remains to be done. The project will see its completion at the beginning of 2019 at which time there will be an official opening for the entire community.

Commissioner Wilson expressed his gratitude to the entire team that has facilitated the renovation. He congratulated Dr. Joka Blaauboer, the Management Team, Hescon Construction Company and the entire staff of Saba Healthcare Foundation (SHF), which manages the hospital. “This is a job well-done. Personally I felt overwhelmed when I entered the building for the first time since the renovation. As Sabans, we can all feel proud of our hospital,” he said.
