Divi & Corendon start operating flights Curacao – St. Maarten

BES Reporter announced that Divi and Corendon plan to execute 5 weekly flights between Curaçao and Princess Juliana International Airport of Sint Maarten and twice weekly to Guarulhos Internation Airport of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Of the 2 flights to Sao Paulo, one may make an intermediate stop in Bonaire, if there is sufficient interest at tour operators for Bonaire as destination.

The Boeing 737-800 which will be operating under Divi Divi Air’s licence and flight numbers, will also carry a sticker identifying the plane as a Divi Divi Air operated flight. Divi and Corendon plan to use the plane in question to operate flights between Curaçao and Sint Maarten, but also from Curaçao and Bonaire to Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The carriers have scheduled their first flights with the Boeing, to be stationed at Hato International Airport during the coming months, on December 10th with destination Sint Maarten.

The airplane is scheduled to be flown on December 8th, 2018 from Amsterdam, via Iceland and Halifax in Canada to Curaçao.

The prices to both Curaçao and Sint Maarten, starting from 120 dollars round trip as promotional fare, as well as those to Sao Paulo can be considered as quite attractive. Some observers do question the viability of the flights at such low prices. A comparable flight to Sao Paulo on Avianca sells at around 900 dollars round trip.

As Winair recently announced the deployment of bigger aircraft on the route between Curaçao and Sint Maarten, this will most probably cause a situation of over-supply in the market on the short term. The Boeing 737, with a seat capacity of 189 can be considered quite large for the Curaçao – Sint Maarten route. Winair operates aircraft on the same route with between 50 and 70 seats. The Winair flights, contrary to those on Corendon/Divi are executed 7 days per week. Two of the Winair Flights have a connection to Bonaire, while the other five flights have a connection to and from Aruba.
