Representatives of the National Ombudsman will be visiting Saba, St. Eustatius and Bonaire this month, to assist people with any issues they may have with the government.
The representatives hold consultation hours, make house calls to discuss issues and submit these, if possible, directly to the government so that these may be resolved.
An investigation the ombudsman was recently able to resolve is the issue regarding taxi licences in Bonaire. On October 30,2018, the Island Council of the Public Entity of Bonaire appointed a new Public Transportation Commission COV.
National Ombudsman Reinicr van Zutphen said he is pleased to see that the recommendations to set up a new commission have been followed, ending an extended period of uncertainty for taxi licence applicants.
On his own initiative, the national ombudsman is currently investigating the way complaints are handled at the Immigration and Naturalisation Service IND on Statia, Saba and Bonaire.
In Statia, the ombudsman will be holding consultation hours at Gertrude Judson Bicentennial Public Library on Wednesday, December 12, 3:00pm-6:00pm.
In Saba, the consultation hours will take place at Eugenius Johnson Centre in Windwardsidc on Thursday, December 13, 4:30pm-6:30pm, and at Queen Wilhelmina Public Library in The Bottom on Saturday, December 15, 3:00pm-5:00pm.
