Static Volleyball team wins SSS tournament

The Sta­tia Female Volleyball team won the Saba, Statia and St. Maarten (SSS) High School Tournament. The competition was held on Saba Thursday and Friday. Statia faced Saba in the opener. Saba won three sets to two with the match going 25-21, 25-19,17-25, 23-25 and 15-9.

Saba then rolled over St. Maarten 2-0, winning 25-23 and 25-21.
St.Maarten then faced Statia. Statia won the match 2-0 going 25-15 and 25-23.

Saba and Statia met again in the championship game. This time Statia won 3-1 with the sets 25-7, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-17.

During the game, Cathryn Sanchez suffered an injury to her arm. There being no substitutes, so Sanchez remained on the court and played with one hand. Sanchez was named Most Valuable Player of the tour­nament. The female vol­leyball team returned to a hero’s welcome.
