On Thursday, March 28, Shamara “Amelia” Nicholson was sworn in as the new Acting Island Governor.
Acting Kingdom Government Representative Jan Helmond administered the oath in the presence of the new members of the Island Council and Island Secretary Tim Muller, with Island Governor Jonathan Johnson acting as witness.
The appointment of Nicholson, a local entrepreneur and a former State Secretary of the Netherlands Antilles, will go into effect per April 1. She will replace the current Acting Island Governor James Franklin Wilson, who will be resigning because he has reached the maximum age limit.
Island Governor Johnson thanked Wilson for his dedication and input. “I am grateful for all he did,” he said. Nicholson said she felt honored to have been asked for the job. “I want to contribute to my island, so when I was asked, I naturally said yes,” she said.
