On Thursday, May 23rd, the elections for the European Parliament take place. To inform the residents of Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius about the voting process, the Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland (RCN) will launch an information campaign on April 11th.
Once every 5 years the Dutch members of the European Parliament are elected. In this Parliament decisions are made about important subjects such as tourism, climate change and safety. Residents of the Caribbean Netherlands who have the Dutch nationality, are 18 years or older and are not excluded from the right to vote, may cast their vote.
RCN informs residents about the voting process through newspaper advertisements, posters, radio spots and TV commercials. Besides that, general information can be found on the RCN website and on Facebook. Highlights are, amongst others: what do you need to bring to the polling station? What is considered to be a valid form of identification? How do you authorize someone to vote on your behalf? What are the procedures if your voting pass is lost? And where are the polling stations located?
RCN is implementing the information campaign on behalf of the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The public entities are responsible for organizing the elections.
