The Committee for Financial Supervision CFT for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba has said that Saba has its finances in order. The Committee spoke with the Executive and Island Councils about the 2018 financial statements, the implementation of the 2019 budget and about financial management.
Saba has prepared the 2018 financial statements, which show a surplus of US $800,000. The Executive Council expects to submit the annual statement and corresponding documents to CFT before the legal deadline, the Council said.
Saba has not submitted the quarterly report on time on several occasions, due to capacity problems. The Executive Council has taken measures and promised to comply with this legal reporting obligation in time again as of now. Financial management is still in good order in Saba, the CFT concluded.
CFT board members paid a visit to the seaport and the waste-management terminal in Fort Bay during their visit to Saba. The plans for the reconstruction and expansion of the seaport were discussed with the Executive Council. The Dutch government has made large sums available for these and other projects in Saba, CFT stated.
