The Public Entity of Saba signed a services agreement with the Benevolent Foundation Saba (BFS) for the setting-up and warranting of an extramural activity program for the seniors of Saba. Commissioner Bruce Zagers and the Board of Directors for BFS Dr. Joka Blaauboer signed the agreement today in front of community leaders and stakeholders who have contributed to the development of this endeavor. The main purpose of the center is to increase the well-being of all seniors. It will provide seniors with physical therapy activities, meals, interactive games, and devotion opportunities.

The center will be named L.I.F.E, which stands for Love & Independence For Elders. The seniors of Saba currently attending the pilot program chose the name to reflect affection, independence, and healthy aging. The senior activity center will be part of a bigger care chain on the island, focused on the seniors.
Dr. Joka Blaauboer expressed her enthusiasm for this program; “This is an exciting program which increases the quality of life and independence for older adults through recreation, education, and socialization”. Commissioner Bruce Zagers, who initiated this project, stated that he is very content that this joint effort of BFS and Public Entity is now starting. “This program will provide great opportunities for social interaction and recreation for the elderly community at large.”
The operation of the L.I.F.E center is scheduled for three times a week at two locations (Eugenius Johnson Center in Windwardside & The Elderly Home in the Bottom). The program is being partially funded by the Island Government.
