Saba hosted 2nd Annual Tweedaagse Conference

On August 15th and 16th, Saba was proud to host the 2nd Annual Tweedaagse conference, which is a conference meant for the fostering of cooperation among the islands and to learn how each island has been managing within the new constitutional system. This was a conference for the Governors, Executive Councils, Island Councils and Registrars of the BES islands and was hosted at the Queen’s Garden resort. This program was made possible by the Ministry of Kingdom Relations, BZK, while the trainers for the program were managing consultants from ITEM. The Tweedaagse program consisted of training for recognizing cultural differences, managing international communication, teamwork, building relationships internally on the islands and networking. A guest speaker at the conference was the Mayor of the Netherlands municipality Geldermalsen, who gave an in depth recounting of the difficulties faced when Geldermalsen was approached with a request for opening an asylum camp.

Some of other activities that took place during the program were comparisons between small island communities and larger countries, presenting unique qualities of the islands and also challenges that the different islands face. While on Saba, the delegation was given a taste of the international cuisine offered on island at various restaurants, and was impressed with the offering. Other activities included an island tour around Saba and, for some, a hike up Mt. Scenery. Island Secretary Tim Muller stated, “The Tweedaagse program on Saba can be deemed a success. It was an enjoyable learning experience for all parties involved and we look forward to seeing what next year’s program brings”.
