Two Saba members of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of St. Eustatius and Saba travelled to St. Eustatius for the mid-year meeting of the board on Wednesday August 9. Since the Chamber serves both islands, it was an initiative of the Public Relations Officer (PRO), that the midyear and year-end meetings be held alternately, on each island.
The discussions cantered around upgrading its registration records to make sure that all the registered entities are in a position to receive information that is current, to make sure the membership is informed of its training, funding assistance programmes and workshops for entrepreneurs and on issues of importance to the business community, including tax laws, budgets, pending upgrades of the offices on both islands, developing relationships with regional Chambers of Commerce, and attendance and participation in upcoming trade missions. The Saba Board Members Vice Chairman Wolfgang Tooten and Board Member Hermanus van Xanten arrived in Statia on Wednesday for a full day of meetings, rounded off by lunch and a tour of the island.
The Chamber is still in the early stages of growth, and is moving ahead steadily with the cooperation of its membership, to help develop and nurture business development in the emerging business community on both islands, it was stated in a press release on Thursday.
