On Monday April 16th the RCN Unit of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) will be launching a social media awareness campaign on Saba and St. Eustatius. SZW will be launching two infomercials starring local actors/actresses to increase awareness to the social relief (onderstand) and Special Assistance. These two services provided by this unit are underutilized on Saba and St. Eustatius.
SZW is encouraging residents of Saba and St. Eustatius, who may be unemployed or are in need of special assistance and have an income below minimum wage, not to be deterred from soliciting assistance. Special assistance is a service to assist AOV pensioners and persons earning lower than the minimum wage with no additional income, with among others a refrigerator, stove, fan, washing machine, school supplies, layette or load of water.
“Social relief must be viewed as a solidarity system whereby persons who are working pay into the social system to benefit those who may become unemployed or are in need of special assistance”, says Raquel Spanner, Team Leader SZW Saba and Eustatius.
The infomercials, which highlight the requirements and where to apply, can be found on the Facebook page of Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland, Island Government of Saba- Government Information Services and Government of St. Eustatius.
