Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen and State secretaries Van Ark and Knops visit St. Maarten and the Caribbean Netherlands

From January 6th till January 10th Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure and Water Management), state secretary Van Ark (Social Affairs and Employment) and state secretary Knops (Interior and Kingdom Relations) will pay a work visit to St. Maarten, Saba, St. Eustatius and Bonaire.

The visit focuses among other things on the topics reconstruction of the Windward Islands, renovation and renewal of major infrastructural projects and the fight against poverty in the Caribbean Netherlands.
The minister and state secretary responsible for these topics, can see for themselves what the developments and challenges are that the Islands cope with, and to determine the best way for The Hague to anticipate on this.

The delegation, headed by state secretary Knops, will have several meetings and will visit different locations. In the coalition agreement a solid ambition is laid down in respect to the Caribbean Netherlands and the Caribbean countries within the Kingdom. This visit fits in the coordinating role of the state secretary of Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations, to visit the Caribbean parts of our Kingdom together with the subject-specific minister and state secretary.

The visit will start on January 6th on St. Maarten. On January 7th the delegation will be on Saba, on January 8th on St. Eustatius and on January 9th and 10th on Bonaire.
