Members of the Saba Disaster Management Team took part in a half-day training on Thursday, May 9. The training was provided by Crisis Management Consultant Edith Kuijper of the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
The training focused on how to act upon the integrated weather forecast that the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute KNMI issues together with the National Hurricane Center in the United States in case of the approaching of severe weather, for example, storms or hurricanes.
“It is important for the Disaster Management Team to know how these forecasts come about and what their impact can be on a multi-disciplinary level,” said the new Advisor Crisis Management of the Public Entity Saba, Pauline Kauffmann.
Present at Thursday’s training were representatives of the Public Entity Saba, the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force, Fire Department, Juancho Yrausquin Airport and Fort Bay Harbor.
Dangerous goods training
Three security employees of the Juancho Yrausquin Airport took part in a training on Thursday, May 9, to learn about the specifics of dangerous goods, and how to detect and handle them. The two other security employees will be trained on Friday, May 10. Airport Manager Maegan Hassell explained that it concerned a refresher course which has to be done every two years, as required by the Dutch aviation authorities ILT. The training was facilitated by aviation logistics from Curaçao, which is certified by the ILT.
